IREN: The Pivot Priced Before It Pays

IREN is making a smart move. It spent years locking up cheap power and building data centers to mine Bitcoin. Now it is pointing those same assets at a better customer: AI companies that need computing power and will pay rising rates to rent it. The strategy is right. The problem is that the stock already prices the pivot as finished.

Our 1880Q model scores IREN 72 out of 100, which is Buy territory. But look at how that number is built. Price momentum, analyst sentiment and demand do most of the work. The fundamental score, the part that measures actual profits, sits at 33.

The bull case is real

The scarcest inputs in the AI buildout are power and permitted data-center sites, and IREN already owns them. Revenue grew 41% year over year. Gross margin, what's left after the direct cost of delivering the service, is a healthy 69%. That tells you the compute business can work. The company also holds $6.08 billion in cash.

The price already assumes success

At $47, IREN trades at 23.6 times sales with no earnings. Net margin is –51.5%, and the latest quarter lost $684 million on $137 million of revenue. Revenue has fallen three quarters in a row, because the mining business is shrinking faster than the AI business is growing. Fifteen analysts cover the stock, none rate it a sell, and their average target implies 82% upside. When everyone is already bullish, there is nobody left to buy.

The risk almost nobody is watching

IREN's customers take roughly 45 days to pay, and our receivables quality score is 27 out of 100. That is the weakest reading in the entire analysis, and signed contracts are not collected cash.

Many of those customers are young, venture-funded AI companies. Their ability to pay depends on the same funding cycle that is driving IREN's stock, so if money tightens, both break at once.

Add $7.84 billion of debt and a beta of 4.29, meaning the stock tends to move about four times as hard as the market, and a small stumble becomes a big drawdown. In our loss scenario the stock falls to $34, down 27%, without anything dramatic breaking.

Where we stand: SPECULATIVE

The fair-value band centers near $42, below today's price, and our accumulate zone runs from $30.60 to $42. If you own IREN, keep the position small and don't add above that midpoint. Watch the collections, because they move before the stock does.
